A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami Dade County Leader.
Although not quite at the same level as sparing holiday birds, but the county's top official experienced a presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued from the start of the onset of a second term in office.
“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a long and happy life away from worry.”
This ceremony, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, donated by a local firefighter, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “6-7” – originating from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The craze became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently made “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“This swine clemency has become a cherished method to begin the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.
“It embodies the spirit of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and based in heritage that bring people together. Annually, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
