England Coach Southee Unsure on The Ashes Participation
Tim Southee's most recent Test for the Kiwis was against England in the final month of 2024.
England's fast-bowling advisor Southee is currently evaluating the extent of his role will be during the upcoming Ashes series in Australia.
The ex- New Zealand pace bowler is only likely to be present for the opening match due to his participation in the International League T20 tournament, which starts on 2 December in the United Arab Emirates.
The 36-year-old, aged 36, took up a position as England's pace bowling advisor in the warmer months after claiming 391 scalps in 107 Tests for New Zealand.
Speaking as the English squad for the first of three Twenty20 games against New Zealand was named, he said of his availability: "We are still evaluating the situation at the moment.
"We will determine what happens over the next little while."
English pace icon Stuart Broad had stated the Australian team as their "worst team since 2010", but Southee was in no uncertainty over what to expect during the series, which starts on 21 November.
"In my view there's at any time a poor Aussie side," he remarked.
"Our focus is squarely on our own objectives. I think the quality of [England's] side that's going out to Australia is brilliant.
"It should be an thrilling encounter, that series. Not just [are|do] fans from both nations looking forward to it, I believe the whole cricket world is."
But, prior to the English team travel to the city of Perth for the first Ashes match, they take on the Kiwis in the city of Christchurch on this Saturday.
