Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After NYC Shooting
New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and believes the player will recover well after being shot in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.
Glenn shared that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was âupbeatâ during their recent conversation.
âWhat reassures me, is that heâs feeling positive,â Glenn commented. âHis family, theyâre in good spirits and he is expected to recover fully.â
The coach did not know when Boyd might be released the medical facility, where he is reported as in critical but steady condition.
âNot certain at the moment,â the coach said. âHowever, I can share, from our conversation, he seemed very positive. And again, that reassures me, given his positive frame of mind and heâs talking that way.â
NYPD shared security footage earlier this week of a suspect in the shooting of Boyd. What prompted the attack is currently under review and officials stated it is unknown if Boyd was the intended victim. No other injuries according to reports.
The attack took place just after 2am on Sunday morning near MSG and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, 29, was transported to a medical center after suffering a wound to the stomach, according to authorities. The shooter fled the scene.
Glenn shared Boyd has occupied his thinking âconstantlyâ since he heard about the shooting. The coach said that Boyd and his wife are new parents to a baby.
âMy initial concern, he has a new baby,â Glenn noted. âMy mind went to his family, Iâm thinking about his kid and my priority is his well-being. That was my main concern.
âA certain process is underway, Iâll keep private, but Iâm happy at the fact that he will recover excellently.â
Boyd did not participate during the current season, his debut year with New York, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on August 18 with a shoulder injury that required surgery.
Boyd came to New York as a new signing in spring and was expected to be a key part of a revamped special teams unit under the coach and ST coordinator Chris Banjo. But Boyd was injured during a practice session on August 2 and was carted from the field.
Boyd continued to be present all season long while recovering from the shoulder injury.
âHeâs been a part of what weâre doing,â Glenn commented. âI mean, he is a regular at our matches. He is completely involved. As one of the leagueâs best on special teams, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.â
Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, spent his initial four years with Minnesota after his selection in the later rounds by Minnesota out of the University of Texas in the 2019 draft. He joined the Arizona Cardinals in 2023 and moved to Houstonâs squad after that. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal for $1.6 million with New York in March.
