The Mighty Nein's Introductory Sequence Selected the Incorrect Critical Role Track
The Mighty Nein, the most recent animated adventure by the beloved role-playing group, revealed a new introductory sequence. It features our favorite cast of misfits, misfits, and rogues fighting hard and taking names, while also hinting at several heart-wrenching personal histories for key figures including the voice actor's mage Caleb, and Travis Willingham's orc warlock, the character Fjord.
Overall, the intro appears amazing. However, I felt that an element was missing in the music selection.
The intro employs "Welcome to Wildemount", a truly stellar composition composed by producer and singer the talented musician. This piece originating from the official score of that title, the second release released by the production company's record label their music brand. It's a wonderful nostalgic choice, and I suspect that devotees of the sequel series will love its inclusion.
Personally, The series' opening fails to capture the hype and energy that accompanied the show's live-play sessions. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by singer-songwriter Jason Charles Miller, became an immediate hit for me when it was initially unveiled in that year, and it improved further when cast member the performer wrote words to the melody for the series' animated intro in the later year.
Featuring vocals from one actress, another performer, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the song was catchy and fun. At the time, I hadn't seen the follow-up series yet, but it was so infectious that I kept it on my device. This track that knows how to get you pumped before you dive into an installment of fantasy hijinks.
The show's intro with "the new song" doesn't strike the same chords for me. It's a grand composition, but based on my understanding of this party, I can't help but feel that its tone is a little off.
Naturally, the creators has stated that the animated show will have some surprises and differences from the actual-play campaign. A tonal change for its intro seems to be one of them.
The Mighty Nein will be released on the streaming service from November 19. If you can't wait until then, or wish to prepare to learn about the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the actual play are available on Spotify and the video site.
