The Red Devils Poised to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Signing for United
The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the WSL team.
Her exit from Bayern was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack
The experienced striker's arrival should represent a major boost to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Carrington
Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be gathering momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional activity:
- The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
