Three-time Most Valuable Player Jokic sustains a 'gut-wrenching' leg setback.

Jokic won the league's Most Valuable Player award in 2021, 2022, and 2024.

Thrice-crowned NBA MVP Nikola Jokic suffered a "heartbreaking" knee injury when the Denver Nuggets were defeated 147-123 to the Miami Heat.

The star player sustained the injury in the latter stages of the opening half during an accidental coming together with team-mate Jones.

The other player landed on the footwear of Jokic, who instantly went down to the floor grabbing his leg.

The 30-year-old, who leads the league season in rebounds and dimes, recorded 21 points and eight dimes in the contest prior to sustaining the problem.

He will have an scan on Tuesday to determine the extent of the problem.

"Immediately, Jokic understood there was a problem," said Nuggets coach David Adelman.

"This happens in professional sports. Any player who gets hurt, that's tough to see, most notably a player as talented as him. More information will come tomorrow."

"We'll move on as a team. Obviously, at this moment, I am more concerned just about Jokic personally and the disappointment of facing something of that nature."
